Meet Chico.
Chico is a 9 year old, long haired chihuahua, who lives with his blood brother, Paco and his adopted brother, Zeus.
Chico has recently been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and to both document his life and to raise awareness for heart disease in dogs, I am creating this blog.
This little guy first came into my life in 2005, as the smallest fluff ball I'd ever seen. He, with his brother and sister, were flown up to Edmonton, Alberta from somewhere in the states. They landed with Jody Napier, who then ran Bearytiny Kennels and had bought them to breed with her dogs.
Upon arriving at the kennel, it was immediately apparent that this woman truly cared for her dogs (the chihuahua babies even had heat lamps to keep them warm).
Initially, it was Paco, then named Wilbur, who was to be the new member of our family, but upon arrival, we fell in love with Chico too.
Chico was an opinionated little guy, who was in his 'ugly puppy stage' as his fur wasn't quite grown in evenly. He barked at the greyhound and kept Jody up at night. Despite all his 'short-comings', I fell in love. So, after no real discussion at all, we adopted both dogs.
Paco was to be *purchased for $1200.00, from a reputable breeder. Chico was to be sold for $500.00, as he was 'less desirable' as a stud. We had not brought much cash, as to not make hasty decisions, but since Chico annoyed his owner so much at night, she let us take him home for $200.00 and pay the other $1500.00 when we picked up Paco.
A week later, we picked up Paco and our lives together officially began.
*Please don't shop, ADOPT!!! Check out your local chihuahua rescue for more info.
